Fundraising

Through out the year the Friends hold various social events and fundraising activities to raise money for the hospital. These events are not only a great way to raise money but also offer a chance for our volunteers to meet up and enjoy a fun time together.

Musical Social Evenings

Each year we hold evenings of music and good food. Usually they are along a theme. During the past years the Friends have held a French night, Indian Night, Jazz evening, Caribbean Night and more recently an evening of Songs from the shows. At these events a three course buffet style meal is served with wine and various bands play. The evening raises money for the Friends and give a chance for people to socialise. So if you fancy a fun evening out then ask the Friends when their next social event is.

Christmas Fair

At the end of November the Friends hold a Christmas Fair where you can pick up a Christmas gift early. The event raises a terrific £3000. The money raised from this event is used to pay for Christmas vouchers for Patients.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas day volunteers come in to the wards and serve teas and coffees and provide a listening ear and chat to the patients who are stuck in hospital over the Christmas period. During this time they also give each patient a card with a £3 gift voucher that they can use in our hospital shop. Such a gift can make a huge difference to patients especially if they do not have relatives visiting them.

Summer Fete

After months of preparation the 50th Celebration Friends Summer Fete 2007 went well despite the weather!! The Samba Band definitely cheered the day up and the Children even joined in with the samba dancing.
Many people watched the balloon release and with the strong winds one even reached Leicestershire!

10 wards had their own stalls, including Hospital Radio, and the Friends Volunteers had a further 14 stalls.

The Day raised a fantastic £ 9477.44 and the money raised by the ‘Friends’ will be put towards the parent accommodation in the proposed Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
Many thanks to all volunteers, ward staff and visitors for making the day such a success.

Quizzes

Through out the year the Friends run short quizes. They are just 50p and test your knowledge to the limit. So if you are a keen quiz master then look out for them in our Friends hospital shop and support our charity at the same time.

Book Sales

Every month a team of volunteers hold a book sale in the Main entrance. There are many top novels for sale for just 30p. The sales are usually the first Monday of the month 10-2pm so pop buy if you are a keen reader and pick up a bargain!

Toy Sales

The Friends hold a toy sale twice a year so if you collect teddy bears or want to get a present for a child or grandchild please look out for the posters advertising these days in the Main Entrance of the hospital. All the money raised goes towards paying for patient amenities.
